“You too can vote to take away civil rights from someone!”

I saw this article on msn.com this morning and found it quite hilarious.   Last November, bigots in California outlawed gay marriage in order to “protect the sanctity of marriage.”  Now, a man by the name of John Marcotte is trying to put an initiative on the ballot to ban divorce for the exact same reason.  After all, the married father of two says, “since California has decided to protect traditional marriage, I think it would be hypocritical of us not to sacrifice some of our own rights to protect traditional marriage even more.”

Mr. Macotte would have to get 694,354 signatures by March 22 for his ban to be put before voters–a goal that seems out of reach at the moment–and if it did manage to pass, supporters acknowledge that it wouldn’t hold up against a federal court.  And that’s exactly the point they’re trying to make.  Why is it alright to take away the rights of same-sex couples, but not opposite- sex couples?  Oh, right, it’s not alright at all.  In fact, it’s downright unconstitutional.
