So LJB had me scan an article today about something which his daughter had designed with the help of SJG—the “txt hook” (not the real spelling, because I don’t want them to google it and find this blog…..thank you EK, for your contagious paranoia)—which I think is one of the most pointless inventions ever.
See, the txt hook was designed with parents in mind. It mounts your smartphone on a stroller so that you can still be easily connected while out and about with your child. Sounds great, right? Not so much….
1. You still have to take one hand off the stoller to use it, which seems to defeat the whole purpose of it being held for you.
2. It broadcasts the fact that you have a smartphone, which would seem to attract thieves. Take your eyes off it for one second at the playground to check on your kid, and it could be gone.
3. Do we really want mothers pushing their children in NYC—where you have to cross a lot of streets—while playing on their iPhone or Blackberry? It just seems like a recipe for tragedy.
Who knows, maybe it will be the “next big thing.” If so, someone save the children
