I just saw this ridiculous article about how five boys were forced to leave their high school in California because they were wearing shirts with American flags on Cinco de Mayo. Not kidding. School officials came up to them at lunch at told them to remove their American flag bandanas and turn their shirts inside out. When they refused, they were told they’d have to leave or be suspended.
The “reasoning” of the school officials was that since there’s a large Mexican-American population at the school, the boys were being “incendiary” and trying to provoke fights. One of the Mexican-American students at the school said that “I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day. We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
Ummm….newsflash! California is in America! Not in Mexico! Why the hell should they apologize when they’re American students wearing the American flag on American soil! Who cares that it’s a Mexican holiday? If they want to live in a place where everyone respects Mexican holidays, they should move back to Mexico! Geez, what is with these people? You don’t hear us complaining that Canadians and Mexicans don’t celebrate Fourth of July because, duh, it’s not their holiday! I hope these school officials get fired. And run out of town. And sued too for infringing upon another person’s constitutionally given right to free speech…..
Kudos to one of the boys though. The school district overruled the school officials and allowed him to return to school. Guess what he wore? Yep. A shirt with the American flag 🙂
